New Website

It’s movin’ time! I know it seems like I just got this Tumblr…and I did…but I’ve now purchased a website space and I’m going to use that instead. I’ll keep updating on my blog account (this account), but the posts will also appear on my new site. Also, I’ll keep my art Tumblr running as a sort of archive, but there will be no new updates on it. In the next few days I will be putting all of my work onto my new location, so check on it frequently. Also, please subscribe to my RSS feed there!

I’m A High School Graduate!

Wow, I can’t believe that the time has finally come for me to start yet another new chapter in my life. As a high school graduate I can say that I’m both scared for what’s ahead, but more than anything that I’m excited for my future. Or at the very least, for college.

I know this posts to Facebook, so here’s a shout out to my fellow graduates (and congratulations!):

Our class has certainly been through more than its fair share of drama, tragedy, and struggle. However, what we are today is a class that overcame these difficulties and obstacles. Like some of our speakers eloquently pointed out: it is these difficult moments in our history that make our accomplishments now shine even brighter. We serve as role models to lower grades in that we have shown that over time, growth is possible. On a more personal note, I would like to thank my class for all of their support. As many of our speakers (once again) eloquently stated, our class is good at supporting the quirks, talents, and dreams of their fellow peers. And so for me, this support came for my artwork and even for my writing from time to time. This has helped me a lot, in that is has encouraged me and made me feel like I was creating in a safe environment where I would receive not only praise, but mature criticism (if need be…although really, I’m so awesome, was it ever? ;]). Despite how incredibly unique and diverse our small class of 26 is, we all are able to unify and come together to support, protect, and trust one another in a way that is truly strong and dynamic. But now I’m rambling. You’ve all heard amazing speeches by four amazing people, and you don’t really need to hear any more. But thank you, class, for being you. Oh and senior class…keep in touch! <3

To anyone else who has graduated recently/will graduate soon, congratulations! I hope you feel the close attachment with your senior class that I do with mine, and that your futures are bright.

Drawing-a-day update

Okay so it’s not gone that well….but I have two drawings! But I didn’t care for the first…so that’s not going to be seen by anyone. Actually, it was really good at the start but then I made the body too long >< Falling into old habits, I guess.

Anyway, the first successful “drawing-a-day” drawing is actually…a drawing of some arbitrary fantasy woman. Like those amazing illustrations by people who do Magic cards and stuff? But way cool. And some would argue, sexy.

Nonetheless I attempted to turn this artist’s masterpiece into a meager pencil sketch that’s ridiculously small (oops, my bad…), and all in all, considering I haven’t drawn in quite a while at any serious length, I think it turned out pretty well. Because I made it so small, however, I found it difficult to put in all the details that I really should have included. So, naturally, I kind of faked them.

Where is this piece, you might ask. Well…because it was based off of a more than likely copyrighted image, I don’t really want to post it on the blog for my work. So I’ve decided to make a dA folder -just- for my drawing-a-day or my drawing-when-I-feel-like it project. So whenever I have a new batch, I’ll repost the link and perhaps describe some of the pieces. Does that sound good to you? Works for me.

Here’s the link:

Hope everyone enjoys and checks back!

Remember, all of these are going to be traditional drawings…eek.

I might do some digital work on the side, but it won’t be considered a “drawing-a-day” work. We’ll see what happens. Maybe in my next post I’ll explain why I’m doing it. I don’t think I”ve done that in depth and well…not much else is going on so why not?

Little Update

Hey guys, I know I haven’t posted anything in a while, but nothing much has been happening. My summer break is in full swing, but this week I have a bunch of school stuff to attend. After I graduate in a week (Oh God…finally…), I’ll really be free! I’m so excited for the summer to start and for college to begin. I haven’t found out about roommates or anything, but I”ll update you on that when it happens!

I’m still considering doing the one-drawing-a-day self challenge, but I don’t know if that’s actually going to happen or not (inspiration is rare, sometimes!).

I’ll post again later, I hope, with some more exciting news etc. Hope everyone’s summer/end of the school year is going great!

Done With High School Classes!…What Now?

So last Thursday I finished up my high school classes. I can’t say I”m done with high school per se though…as my principle pointed out, I haven’t gotten my grades [har har.], and I also have a few hours of community service left to do. I also haven’t…well, graduated.

But nonetheless I no longer have to show up to school for classes, and thus I am free for the rest of my summer! Sort of.

Which means I’m going to try to do one drawing a day [although this week is busy so it might start next week]. I’ve also been poking around for jobs and I have a few things lined up. If all else fails, however, I’ll work for my parents. My mom, Linda Solovic, is a licensed illustrator who is selling her work on Etsy - you should look her up. I’ll most likely be maintaining her Etsy shop and doing some digitalization of her work over this summer, for some money.

I hope everyone else’s summer is splendid, whenever it starts! I’ll update soon!

Oh and for the drawing situation [if it actually works…], I’ll post the collective for a week at a time. Does that sound good? Comment if you have a better idea. On Facebook or on here.

Oh and random thanks to anyone/everyone who actually reads these things. I appreciate it.

All done!

Wow, and I thought that this moment would never come. But here it is — I’ve officially finished putting together my AP Studio portfolio! It just has to be sent off. It’s a wonderful feeling, and I’m super excited that it’s finally over. It was fun though, and I learned a lot. The concentration pages were definitely the best.

Here’s a Quick Update

Sorry that I haven’t really posted lately - not much has been happening!

I’m excited for school in the fall…but until then, I’m finishing up my Art Studio portfolio. All I really have to do is get my quality pieces together to be sent out, and then I should be done. My final AP exam is May 5, and then I’m done with school! Yay!

Hopefully I will be doing a lot of cool art stuff over the summer (even get paid?) and I’ll be working a lot on drawing so that when I go to art school I’m not totally out of practice.

I’ll update later, if I have more to say. Hope everyone’s May has started off well!

College Chosen!

Yay, I have finally chosen my college! After long consideration and debate between MCAD and Herron, I have decided to brave the Minneapolis cold and go to the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. While I thought that Herron was a truly amazing school with beautiful facilities, great faculty, and friendly students, I think that MCAD is a perfect fit for me. Their own facilities are amazing, their equipment seems unreal, their program is strong, and their liberal arts classes are varied and interesting. I’m excited about my decision, though I regret to leave Herron and not become part of their community. To anyone considering Herron, please consider it seriously, because it is a truly amazing and wonderful school! I already feel like there are teachers I’m going to miss…and I haven’t even known them for more than an hour!

Nonetheless, I think that once I meet with MCAD teachers and become their student, I will be comfortable and at home. The students all looked relaxed and comfortable in their environment, and what I heard of them talking sounded both intelligent and compelling.

Anyway, enough rambling. I send out the papers to confirm my decision tomorrow night - scary!

But I look forward to this coming fall and the many possibilities, fears, and accomplishments it will bring. It’s a scary time, but it’s also very exciting, and thrilling. Living, breathing, loving art - I can do it! :]

Page 9!

Concentration page 9 is finally finished! This one was a lot quicker than the others, but I think it still looks pretty nice. Go to my art blog to take a look!
